Salves and TincturesIn the middle ages, you didn't go to the doctor for most illnesses, and even if you did, the results you received were dicey. Instead, most people relied upon their own salves and tinctures, prepared at home or by the local herb wife. Most gardens would contain the basic herbs used by the general populace (liquorish and peppermint for stomach ailments, mustard and horehound for coughs and colds, etc.), and they are hardy enough to even be grown in a window box or apartment window.
